REGISTER FOR YOUTH AND TEEN CLASSES

Students must be enrolled in a class to participate in performances.

Through performance, we teach our dancers to connect the dots between the classroom work, and the art form. We have a variety of performance opportunities throughout the school year, from Showcase performances in December and May, to Step Onstage classes, where students take part of the creation of new dances; as well as the dedicated performances of our resident teen dance companies, the Dance Jam, and Seeds; and the opportunity of auditioning to be part of The Velveteen Rabbit kids cast with our professional dance company, ODC/Dance.

Audition: September 28, 2024, 3:00–6:00pm
Weekend Rehearsals: Saturdays and Sundays Oct 13 - Nov 24 Participants must be registered in an ODC Youth Program class.

Youth & Teen Program students are eligible to audition for the annual ODC/Dance production of The Velveteen Rabbit held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and throughout the Bay Area. The children’s cast performs with ODC/Dance, our professional dance company, in this beloved main stage production. Pre-registration for the audition is required. We are looking for one cast of 10-12 dancers, ages 7-13.

December Showcase

Selected classes perform in an informal studio setting to share what they have learned throughout the Fall Session. Performances showcase a broad range of techniques and styles. Classes that do not perform in the December Showcase have scheduled parent observation dates.

May Showcase

May 3-4, 2025

Selected classes perform at the end of the school year in an onstage showcase at ODC Theater. Classes include tap, hip hop, Dance Around the World, Boys Class, Pre-Ballet, Kid Contemporary, and more! Students interested in a more in-depth performance opportunity should consider our Step Onstage classes, and auditioning for the Dance Jam or Seeds.

Step Onstage (Ages 8-18)

No audition required

Class will focus on creating movement and making dance pieces, as well as learning repertory to be performed in May in a dedicated concert. Students will participate in generating ideas for making movement, and will solve movement tasks related to specific themes. Teachers will mentor each individual student and guide the classes in creating overall structure and form in a supportive ensemble context. A FUN class that values curiosity, imagination and exploration. This class is essential to ODC’s Youth & Teen Contemporary Class curricula.

Teens (Ages 13-18) are invited to audition for SEEDs (ODC’s Teen Hip Hop Dance Lab) or Dance Jam (ODC’s Teen Contemporary company).
