The ODC School is inviting guest artists to come teach on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to 11:30am. Keep an eye out for who’s coming to the Dance Commons!

February 18 - 27, 2013
10am - 11:30am

Iratxe begins her Contemporary European Technique class for advanced dancers either on the floor or at the barré with a few short exercises that fully articulate the body's musculature in a juicy and fluid way. Once in the center, she uses breathing techniques to expand the torso's range of movement while strengthening its core. In order to warm up the body and the mind further, Iratxe uses a brief but stimulating improvisation. The class then moves straight into Iratxe’s choreography, further enhancing the precision and articulation. Having danced professionally with Nacho Duato's Compania National de Danza, The Lyon Opera Ballet and the Nederlands Dans Theater, her choreographic style draws deeply from the European contemporary dance aesthetic. Her energetic, passionate, and always encouraging style of teaching allows students to push their limits both physically and artistically in a supported atmosphere.

Born in San Sebastian, Spain, Iratxe Ansa graduated from the Conservatorio Superior de Musica in San Sebastian, continuing her studies and graduating from the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart. Since 1993, Iratxe has been dancing with companies such as Basel Ballet, Ballet Gulbelkian, Compania Nacional de la Danza with Nacho Duato, Lyon Opera Ballet under Yorgos Loukos and most recently with Nederlands Dans Theatre under the direction of Anders Hellstrom. Throughout her career, Ansa has worked with choreographers like Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Medhi Walerski, Johan Inger, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, Nils Christe, Patrick de Bana, among others. As a choreographer, Iratxe Ansa has staged her own work and created pieces for Lyon Opera Ballet and other companies alike in the United States and Europe. Upon leaving Nederlands Danse Theatre in 2009, Iratxe has been a freelance dance artist and teacher creating workshops in Europe and the United States, choreographing for various companies and working on her own performance projects, the most recent to be performed in the Matadero in Madrid, Spain in November of 2012.
