April 2-11, 2018
10:00-11:30am

Drop-ins welcome. ODC class passes accepted, or pay a $15 drop-in fee per class.

Cali's Contemporary Dance Class has been developed through a 20-year dance career of practice, research, performance, choreography, and teaching. Her movement aesthetic and teaching methods are channeled through a sense of 'serious play' that engages somatic-based experiments, both sentient and technical. The class leads the dancer toward dynamic, efficient and curious dancing while layering concepts from the top of class to the end.

Class will start with a deep and rigorous experiential warm-up focused on whole body integration; waking up, plugging in, turing your lights on and dancing as a community. Her class evolves into dancing complex phrase-work that is multi-dimensional, plane changing and momentum-ful;  Cali's class is highly physical, sensorial, strength building and, she hopes, transformative!

Christine Cali is the Artistic Director of CALI & CO dance and WAH! Fest in San Francisco and is a Professor in the Theatre Arts & Dance Department at Sonoma State University. She is also on faculty at ODC Dance Commons and is the director for the Boys Modern Dance Program at ROCO Dance.

Cali was named “one of the most ferocious, spell-binding dancers I’ve seen in this city (San Francisco)” by Rachel Howard (SF Chronicle) and her Contemporary Dance Class was nominated runner-up (to ODC's Rhythm & Motion Program) for 'Best Dance Class' in San Francisco Magazine's 'Best of 2015' issue. She holds an MFA from Hollins University/American Dance Festival 06' and BFA from Ohio University 97'. She also teaches and performs internationally and will be touring to Seoul and Tokyo with CALI & CO dance/Matt EL this August 2016!
