“Morgan Thorson has a mix-master mind from which postmodern movement and the detritus of everyday life spin out as hilarious vignettes” - New York Notebook
What do our bodies remember? What is held in our muscle memory? What history do we accumulate and carry in our bones and flesh?
In Spaceholder Festival, acclaimed choreographer Morgan Thorson excavates the personal memories of her dancers to create sublime patterns from layers of human behavior and dance choreography. A mesmerizing soundscore by circus composer Sxip Shirey tests the edges of music with auctioneer-style chanting, found sounds, and invented instruments. As archeologists of the self, Thorson and her ensemble explore the human body as a repository of memories and stories to create stunning, dissonant tableaus, inspiring the audience to dig deep and create their own introspective retrospective.
Spaceholder Festival is a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation Fund Project co-commissioned by ODC Theater in partnership with Alverno Presents, Legion Arts, Red Eye Theater, CFA Wesleyan and NPN. The Creation Fund is supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Ford Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information: npnweb.org.
