ODC Theater Presents Paul Dresher Ensemble's Electro-Acoustic Band Worth the Wait Nov. 12-13, 8pm
The Paul Dresher Ensemble's Electro-Acoustic Band brings two evenings of "tantalizing, strikingly original" music (San Francisco Chronicle) to the new ODC Theater. The evening features world premieres commissioned from some of today's most innovative composers and invented instruments, such as the Hurdy Grande, the Quadrachord, the Marimba Lumina, that will challenge boundaries and delight the senses.
The program includes major new works from Bay Area composer and Switchboard Music Festival Founder Ryan Brown; Texas-based composer Bruce Pennycook, whose new work, For Z, is a loving homage to jazz composer/pianist Joe Zawinul and his ground-breaking group Weather Report, and the world premiere of a new work for Dresher's new invention: the Hurdy Grande, a giant motorized hurdy gurdy.
