Your Passport to Global Dance in the Bay Area
An evening of dance, live music, culture, and community featuring two talented choreographers and teachers from the ODC family: Jill Parker, internationally acclaimed belly dance artist, and Tania Santiago, celebrated Afro-Brazilian choreographer.
Jill Parker and The Foxglove Sweethearts Unfolding With live music by Turkish and Balkan band MWE, the bass drum calls forth shimmies, the clarinet begs for sensual hip twists, and the earthy melodies of the zurna drive the deep rolls and flutters Tribal Belly Dance is known for.
Tania Santiago Movendo con Capoeira Explore the dance components of Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial-arts form rooted in the historical and political struggles of the African Diaspora. Weaving together Afro-Brazilian folk dance, pure Capoeira, and live drumming, the work creates a full portrait of this amazing, physical art form.
Come grab a bite from local food vendors available on both nights! We invite everyone come out, enjoy dinner and experience Dance and Diaspora to the fullest.
