A Curved Reality: Dynamic Alignment Principles - Axis Syllabus
This series will give an intro into the science of biomechanics and its importance in understanding a healthy range of motion. We will look closely at how bones are shaped, in what directions muscle and fascia fibers pull, and how different joint surfaces are designed. We will discuss and explore the range of motion of major motion centers such as hips, knees, arms and spine to inspire a respectful and more sustainable use of our instrument. We will quickly discover the fractal-like complexity in our physiological design which leads us away from linear or static movement geometry and articulation of joints. This will lead us into a moving research and open spherical and oblique perspectives and pathways for the body in movement. Classes are typically composed of theory, exploratory improvisation, hands-on and short choreographed phrases based on the prior research. The Axis Syllabus is both training for professional dancers who wish for concrete tools of applying science to movement and to work in a more sustainable and informed way as well as for people who simply wish to deepen their physical development.
The Axis Syllabus is a trans-disciplinary research and education platform and a tool for information mining and information transmission. In a nutshell, the objective of this system is to propose a practical method for instilling safe reflexes and logical responses to the problems of moving. More info at: www.axissyllabus.com.
