Events Calendar > Pilot Program Application Deadline
TAKE OFF WITH THE ODC PILOT PROGRAMEmerging choreographers are immersed in an intimate 11-week session where they are mentored in choreography and aspects of self-production including promotion, publicity, marketing and technical theater production. Curated by the ODC School and the ODC Theater, the Pilot Program has encouraged the artistic and professional development of up and coming choreographers by providing a performance venue and a framework for self-production and promotion for over twenty years. The emphasis on collective spirit and the philosophy of "by our own bootstraps" creates artistic alliances and a strong support system. Choreographers choose what kind of piece they would like to create, and find their own dancers and collaborators for the work. Selection is based on the strength of the written project description and its clarity of intent. For the first time, the Pilot 62 will focus on a specific framework incorporating new trends and choreographic interests – “Dance for Camera”. Artists will create a short piece (10 minutes maximum) which incorporates film. The piece can be solely a dance film, or a live performance piece with a film element. Performances will be at the ODC Theater. As with all Pilots, artists will be responsible for all creative elements including hiring of dancers, collaborators, costumes, and props. Artists must have access to their own camera and editing equipment. We are pleased to announce the Pilot mentor will be choreographer and dance filmmaker Cari Ann Shim Sham* from Los Angeles.
