Two time Grammy-Award nominated tabla virtuoso, and founding member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, Sandeep Das, will join innovative bay area bass player and composer Matt Small and The Crushing Spiral Ensemble, for a one-night-only special event.  This concert will showcase a blend of Mr. Das’ North Indian classical music aesthetics with the unique hybrid of modern jazz and contemporary classical music that Mr. Small and The Crushing Spiral Ensemble are known for. Special arrangements of Mr. Das’ compositions will be featured along with his unparalleled artistry on the iconic and ancient northern Indian tabla drums, the sound of which is embelmatic of Hindustani culture and music.

On this trip to the U.S. from New Dehli, India, Mr. Das will make his only West Coast appearance with Mr. Small and The Crushing Sprial Ensemble, before joining Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble for concerts at Tanglewood Music Center and Harvard University. It was at performances at Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall with the Silk Road Ensemble where Mr. Small and Mr. Das first met and worked together. This Bay Area concert is the second of an ongoing concert series, produced by Mr. Small, featuring collaborations with internationally renowned musicians based outside of the Bay Area.
