Finely Crafted, Fiercely Realized Dancing
Int/Adv Technique with Randee Paufve
June 4 - 13, 2012
Mondays & Wednesdays, 10am - 11:45am
Randee's class emphasizes rigorous, wide-awake, 100% organic, less-is-more dancing. Built from a complex, detailed combination developed through shorter sequences, we work with easeful, swooping, plunging movement that rides the lines between technique and release, rawness and refinement, with no distinction between warm up and dance. Supported by fun, considered music, dancers are encouraged to experiment with range, scope, and intrinsic phrasing to nurture a holistic sense of their bodies in motion, to cultivate a 360-degree awareness of space and to employ technique as a tool to support artistic expression.
Randee Paufve is the director of the Oakland-based Paufve Dance. Nominated for numerous Izzies over the years, Randee’s work has been supported by choreography residencies at the Djerassi Resident Artist Program, Ucross, the Red Cinder Creativity Center and Shawl-Anderson Dance Center. Paufve Dance has been presented on the west coast by Summerfest/Dance, West Wave, Dancer’s Group Studio Theater, Theater Artaud, ODC Theater, Mondavi Performing Arts Center Max10/Los Angeles, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art and Seattle’s On The Boards. The company has been presented twice by the Joyce SoHo Theater and by venues in Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, New York State and Vermont. Randee has served on the dance faculties of UC Davis, Reed College, Lewis & Clark College, USF, CSU East Bay, Saint Mary’s College and CSU Sacramento. She currently teaches dance at Marin Academy and Shawl-Anderson Dance Center.
