Push Dance Company is looking for 4 experienced dancers, male and female, with strong technique in modern, ballet & improvisation and with experience in site-specific work.

Push Dance Company, in collaboration with video artist Ben Wood and technologist David Mark, will premiere “Bitter Melon”, a seldom seen 3D dance installation on May 25-28, 2012 in Union Square downtown San Francisco. Bitter Melon is commissioned by The San Francisco Arts Commission, Jewels in the Square, The Zellerbach Family Foundation, and individual donors.

Contracts will run early April - May 28. Tentative rehearsal period at African American Art & Culture Complex and on site at Union Square, approx. 10 hours per week. May 18-28 will be tech and performances. Rehearsals and performances are PAID.

Raissa Simpson has an extensive performance career in the Bay Area. She received a BFA from Purchase College at SUNY on talent-based scholarship; subsequently attending the schools of Dance Theatre of Harlem, Paul Taylor School, among others. She has toured and performed with Robert Moses Kin (2002-2007) and Joanna Haigood’s Zaccho Dance Theatre (2007-Present). Articulating details through the whole body, she is a commissioned artist whose work gains a deeper understanding of challenges of mixed heritage by using non-traditional dance forms.

Formed in 2005 by Raissa Simpson, Push Dance Company is a mixed-media San Francisco dance company.  The mission of Push Dance Company is to meld music and media, deftly weaving intergenerational and inter-community voices to create a potent force that advances the idiom of dance.
