Jep Melendez trained as a tap dancer in schools in Barcelona and New York and received additional training in jazz dance, classical dance and Afro-Cuban percussion. He has been a tap dancer and improviser in numerous shows including: Benny Goodman Memorial, Jazzin and Dancin, Escolta'm (Barcelona) Navigazzioni (Italy) Tap City, and Swing 46 Tap Jam (New York). He has been a founder of the companies Barcelona Rhythm Tap, Trash, Terekitetap, Kösha and a lead dancer with the company CAMUT BAND, and has acted and danced in theaters and festivals around the world.
In 2009, he was the Artistic Director of Maspalomoa’s International Carnival,’s Faros de Silencio a dance/theater show, for which he was a co-author, choreographer and performer. He has performed in Tapage Nocturne in Paris with renowned body percussionist Keith Terry, and dancers Leela Petronio, Fernando Barba, Peter Stavrum, and participated in the 3rd International Body Music Festival in Sao Paulo (Brazil) in 2010. Jep has developed his own style of body percussion for the last 18 years, combining different influences of tap, sand dance, body percussion, and rhythm to create his own particular vision. He has a wide experience as an international teacher.
