Experience with contact and improvisation dance is a plus. Palanza Dance is working toward a full length work, Seeing Hans, an exploration of Hans Christian Andersen's complex story characters. Palanza seeks to research the qualities of these fictional characters and how certain parts of their stories reflect our own. Using large props, film, and musical collaboration, Palanza intends on creating fantastic and surreal narration to be performed in spring/summer 2012. Dancers will be given a stipend and will perform the work in progress through various venues in the Bay Area. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 11:30am-1pm at ODC.Palanza Dance was founded in 2009 by director Hilary Palanza. Over the course of the first year, the company was invited to be a resident performance company for Artlarking Multimedia SF, and performed at the De Young Museum, ODC, Dance Mission Theater, CounterPulse, LOBOT Arts: Oakland and the Fillmore Arts Walk. Palanza graduated with BA in dance from the Colorado College in 2006 and has toured her work to the Colorado College Summer Dance Festival for two consecutive summers. In spring 2011, Palanza collaborated on her first music video, and intends on delving deeper into the realm of dance for the camera. Palanza Dance celebrates performance as an opportunity to collectively process the paradigms of our human experience. This is achieved by establishing an aesthetic which is raw, beautiful and concise, honoring a process of collaboration and reaching a broad audience through the use of non-traditional performance spaces.
