Dancing People Company (DPC) is looking for one male and one female to fill a company and an apprentice position. Both positions are paid a weekly stipend and require relocation to Ashland for the season. DPC requires strong modern dancers with a good knowledge of ballet. The ideal candidate has good line coupled with a suppleness of movement. Good Contact Improvisation-style partnering skills are a must. DPC dancers must be able to learn and retain set choreography quickly and accurately, yet also have a desire to explore through improvisation.
Currently, DPC works a 5-day week, beginning in mid-October and continuing through May, with scattered weeks off at the holidays and in the spring. Contract is approximately 22-24 weeks. Work includes the annual Winter Solstice production in Ashland; 6 weeks of high school outreach in surrounding communities, which includes full stage performances at the end of each 2-week school residency; rehearsals and performance of new choreography in the spring; and showings throughout the year in casual and alternative spaces.
Dancing People Company is a seven member group based in Ashland, OR, performing the work of Artistic Director and founder, Robin Stiehm. Robin danced professionally in Minnesota for 20 years, first at the MN Dance Theatre, then the New Dance Ensemble, before forming Dancing People in 1994. In 2002, she moved to Ashland, Oregon and the company moved, too. For more info on the company go to www.dancingpeople.com, or contact Robin Stiehm at robin@dancingpeople.com.
