Copious Dance Theater has distinguished itself by dedication to athleticism, European aesthetics, and the modern dance technique of Lester Horton led by artistic director Kat Worthington. The company has established a respectful reputation after its first home season in Spring 2011 at Z Space with rave reviews such as "....movements as liquid as a long string of pearls" by Ashley Webb of StarkInsider. Founded in 2009, this cultural organization draws its mission from its Latin adjective "Copiosus" (meaning plentiful and abundant), in our thoughts, artistry and creativity. Recently the company toured and performed at the Cowell Theater (SF), North Bay Dance Festival, Dance Mission Theater (SF) and WestWave Dance Festival among others.
Kat Worthington (Artistic Director/Founder) is a native of Switzerland and received her BFA in Dance from California State University Long Beach. She holds a Horton pedagogy certification from the Ailey School in NYC and is a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer. She has taught Horton throughout Asia and Europe and worked as an active performer and choreographer in the NYC and Bay Area dance communities. San Francisco Bay Guardian dance critic Rita Felciano noted, “Kat Worthington of Copious Dance Theater.
