The ODC School Audition Series brings dancers and choreographers together in a class context. Dancers may use class cards or pay a $12 drop in fee. Please come early to fill out information forms and bring your resume, if you have one.
Sunday, February 27, 2011 3:30pm - 6pm (3:30-5pm ballet class with Dekkers/Berkman; 5-6pm repertory)
Post:Ballet is seeking professional dancers, strong in classical technique and experienced in contemporary work. There are 8 dance artist contracts available for the 2011 summer season (4 men, 4 women). Contract pays dancer for two performances of 'Seconds,' being presented at the Herbst Theater on July 15 & 16, 2011. Rehearsal period runs from June 13 to July 14 (5-6 days per week) and is not paid. Company class will be provided each morning. Dancers should bring resume, head shot and dance shot.
Founded in 2009 by Robert Dekkers, Post:Ballet is pushing artistic and technical boundaries with multidisciplinary works that transcend stereotypes of what classical dance is and who it speaks to. By integrating dance with other art forms, Post:Ballet is cultivating a unique, creative, collaborative force in the Bay Area and beyond. The company was named '25 to Watch' in 2011 by DANCE Magazine, and was awarded ‘Best New Dance’ by San Francisco’s 7x7 magazine in 2010. Post:Ballet ultimately hopes to use its multidisciplinary works to expand and diversify audiences for artistic presentations, with a focus on nurturing creativity and enriching an artistically hungry, socially-minded young audience base present in the Bay Area.
Artistic Director Robert Dekkers danced professionally with Ballet Arizona, ODC/Dance San Francisco, and Company C Contemporary Ballet before founding Post:Ballet in San Francisco. Inspired to create multidisciplinary works that use classical dance as a means, but not an end, to artistic expression, Dekkers has developed numerous collaborative works on the company since its inception. Dekkers began choreographing over a decade ago, and has presented works at the Tanzsommer Festival in Vienna; the World Ballet Competition in Orlando; and the Ballet Builders Showcase in New York City. He was Resident Choreographer of NovaBallet from 2008-2009, where he created new works including AnOther, Milieu and No One Does It Like You.
